What functional neurology means here
Functional neurology looks at how the nervous system works and how that may relate to your symptoms. Dr. Gates considers the diagnosis you may already have, then asks what may affect your symptoms in your case.
Dr. Gates is a Doctor of Chiropractic and a board-certified chiropractic neurologist (DACNB) through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. He is not a medical doctor. GBH is not a conventional medical neurology clinic. Call the office if you are not sure which type of care you need.
Care starts with a neurological evaluation
Dr. Gates takes a detailed history and performs a hands-on neurological exam before he suggests care. He chooses tests based on what your history and exam show.
Testing may include VNG eye movement testing, lab work, and brain imaging. Gates Brain Health may order brain imaging when it can add useful diagnostic information. Dr. Gates reviews the results before he builds a care plan.
The evaluation considers more than the diagnosis
Many people arrive with a diagnosis. Dr. Gates still starts with an evaluation so he can assess the symptoms and findings in that person.

Care plans are built person by person
Dr. Gates does not use one standard plan for every person. He builds the care plan from the evaluation findings.
Dr. Gates does not prescribe medication. The clinician who prescribes your medicine makes any changes to it.
