How care works

What treatment with Dr. Gates involves, step by step.

Care here begins with a conversation, moves to a detailed examination, and continues through weekly visits shaped around your situation. This page walks through each stage and what it asks of you.

It starts with a free consultation, not a commitment.

Before you become a patient, the practice offers a free consultation with Dr. Randall Gates, D.C., DACNB. It is a chance to describe what you have been dealing with, hear how he approaches situations like yours, and decide whether the fit feels right.

Living with chronic neurological symptoms is hard, and choosing where to seek help is a real decision. The consultation exists so you can make that decision with more information and no obligation.

The examination is long on purpose.

If you decide to move forward, your first full visit is an examination. Plan for up to three hours; the length depends on how complex your health picture is.

During that visit, Dr. Gates performs a full neurological examination and tests your eye movements with videonystagmography (VNG), a test that records involuntary eye movements to help evaluate the vestibular system, the inner-ear system involved in balance. You also learn brain-rehabilitation exercises selected for you, and you leave with an outline of your care plan.

When more information would help, he may order blood work or specialty testing. Gates Brain Health may also order brain imaging when it can provide valuable diagnostic information.

Ongoing care runs week by week.

After the examination, you meet with Dr. Gates each week. Between appointments, the team stays in contact, so you can report how you are responding and ask questions about your plan as they come up.

Along the way, blood labs may be repeated, and sometimes specialty testing as well, to monitor how things are going. You can ask for copies of any testing the practice performs; the intent is for you to understand your own results, not just hand them over.

The practice describes an initial course of care of roughly twelve weeks that ends with an individualized plan for maintaining what you have gained. In reality, duration varies with the complexity of each case, so treat twelve weeks as a shape, not a promise.

What this care is, and what it is not.

Care at Gates Brain Health is individualized functional neurology: guided by examination and testing, and built around exercises and weekly follow-up. Dr. Gates is a board-certified chiropractic neurologist; he is not a medical doctor.

This is complementary care. It does not replace your primary care provider or any specialist you see, and decisions about medications stay with the clinicians who prescribe them. No outcome is promised here, because how much any person improves depends on their condition, their history, and factors no one fully controls.
